Advising Public Policy

OLC and the Public Sector | Partners in the Public Sector

Policy is the course of action decided upon by the government to address an identified issue. The Ontario Literacy Coalition provides informed advice to government officials in the hope of positively influencing the formation of literacy-oriented public policy. We have no vested interest; we are simply the connector and advisor. Our only commitment is working toward our global end – all adults in Ontario fully benefit from literacy.

While there is no provincial or federal legislation that deals directly with literacy, both the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada have extensive public policies surrounding adult learning.

The Ontario Literacy Coalition was established by the federal government, with the support of the province and community literacy agencies, to provide a provincial view of literacy. As such, the OLC has a unique relationship with the public sector, both federally and provincially, as a policy advisor and key connector in the literacy field.

OLC and the Public Sector

The OLC is proud to partner with a variety of ministries on initiatives, which serve the OLC end that all adults in Ontario fully benefit from literacy. We support cross-ministerial partnerships as literacy is a cross-cutting issue, directly impacting many government initiatives.

Partners in the Public Sector

As a partnership development organization, the Ontario Literacy Coalition recognizes the importance of collaboration in every aspect of our work. The OLC would like to acknowledge the government agencies with whom we have partnered.
