English as an Additional Language (EAL) Literacy

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Literacy generally refers to literacy research and programming, designed for people whose first language is not English.

Many adults enter Canada, and Ontario’s Adult Literacy programs, speaking (and in some cases reading and writing) one or more other languages.

English is for them an additional language, making them bilingual or multi-lingual. EAL Literacy is quickly developing into an important aspect of literacy research and programming in Ontario as the province welcomes an ever-increasing number of new Canadians. The OLC is on the cutting edge of this trend.
