Developing Models of Best Practices for Integrated Family Literacy Programming

Project Update - March 2008

Researcher/Writer: Melanie Redman

This spring finds the OLC's Developing Models of Best Practices for Integrated Family Literacy Programming project in full swing. Recently, we convened a very exciting stakeholder meeting to determine how to best proceed with developing a long-term partnership framework and with disseminating our important work. Present at the meeting were representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. We presented our work to date and sought important feedback and recommendations from our guests.

Moving forward, we anticipate hosting a larger stakeholder meeting with key ministry staff, OLES, AFLO and the OLC in late May. At that time, we will invite all attendees to present a short explanation of how their ministry or organization supports literacy and/or family literacy in Ontario, and we will present our work to date with the Developing Models project. We plan to use this important meeting as an opportunity to facilitate cross-ministerial partnerships and encourage additional support and resources for family literacy. We also hope to build on the important work of AFLO's recent position paper for the future of family literacy.

Stay tuned for a final update, which will follow the stakeholder meeting in May
meant to inform on action items and steps for moving forward.
