Born out of the Family Literacy symposium hosted by the OLC in September 2002, Action for Family Literacy Ontario (AFLO) is a group that brings literacy advocates together to initiate provincial action, to make suggestions for local action, to develop a definition and vision for family literacy, and to find a "champion" for family literacy.
The OLC continues to support the work of their working group for family literacy — Action for Family Literacy Ontario (AFLO). The project involves outreach, public awareness, and research on family literacy in Ontario. Awareness raising work includes setting up an AFLO website, developing other outreach and promotional materials. A research project will be undertaken on the state and strategic planning of family literacy programs in Ontario, and a best practices manual on family literacy will be published.
