Partners in Learning for Literacy Professionals
Literacy and essential skills professionals across Ontario work daily to provide the best learning opportunities possible for their students. The OLC believes to maintain quality literacy and essential skills programming, these professionals require learning opportunities as well.
The Ontario Literacy Coalition (OLC) defines Learning for Literacy Professionals as actions that improve effectiveness of literacy and essential skills programming. This can involve training, networking, resource-sharing and professionalization opportunities.
Linking the field and the people of Ontario:
- As Ontario moves forward in a knowledge-based economy, literacy and basic skills training is key to the success of the province and individual Ontarians.
- The Employment Ontario system (the literacy and basic skills infrastructure) facilitates a variety of learning opportunities for 50,000 Ontarians every year.
- For the literacy field to adequately serve the people of Ontario, the professionals within that system require professional development opportunities.
Initiatives associated with this strategy include the Spotlight on Learning conference, Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum and building relationships between literacy and essential skills services and their partners in Employment Ontario.
