Who We Are

Mission Statement:

The OLC makes adult learning opportunities possible by inspiring ideas and informing action.

We work to ensure all adults in Ontario benefit from literacy by gathering data and intelligence, cultivating partnerships, building capacity and advising policy.

The OLC is currently focusing on 4 main strategies

The OLC was established in 1987, along with 12 other provincial and territorial coalitions as part of a pan-Canadian framework. The coalition was created to support implementation of government initiatives, provide training, and disseminate information. Its purpose was also to assemble networking opportunities amongst programs and service organizations, and between regions, the province and communities across Canada.

The OLC maintains strong stakeholder relations with 16 regional literacy networks and four sector councils. Almost 50,000 adult learners are served every year by the nearly 300 adult literacy programs supported by the OLC. Working closely with our partners from the Francophone, Deaf and Aboriginal Literacy Coalitions, we establish common practices around common issues. Key partnerships are also held with the business and labour communities as well as second-language, settlement services and other community organizations.
