Who We Are

OLC Global Ends Policy

The Ontario Literacy Coalition (OLC) exists so that all adults in Ontario reap the full benefit of literacy. This will be accomplished efficiently and effectively with the greatest return on investment possible.

The OLC was established in 1987, along with 12 other provincial and territorial coalitions as part of a pan-Canadian framework. The coalition was created to support implementation of government initiatives, provide training, and disseminate information. Its purpose was also to assemble networking opportunities amongst programs and service organizations, and between regions, the province and communities across Canada.

The OLC supports over 250 members, maintains strong stakeholder relations with 16 regional literacy networks and four sector councils. More than 46,000 adult learners are served by the 200 adult literacy programs supported by the OLC. Working closely with our partners from the Francophone, Deaf and Aboriginal Literacy Coalitions, we establish common practices around common issues. Key partnerships are also held with the business and labour communities as well as second-language and immigrant settlement services.
