Learners and the OLC

Including the perspectives and participation of literacy learners and individuals with literacy challenges is one of the OLC's top priorities. We believe that people with literacy challenges have a lot to contribute, and we make sure that there are many ways that they can take part.

Literacy learners play an important role in the OLC by participating on project planning and advisory committees and on the OLC Board of Directors. Literacy learners help the OLC to develop programs and materials that are respectful of people who have literacy challenges, and that reflect their needs and priorities.

The OLC raises awareness and engages in public outreach to encourage potential literacy learners to join literacy programs and to provide information on how to access these programs. On behalf of literacy learners, all OLC programs have the overall goal of finding ways to improve the level of literacy in Ontario and to advocate for literacy.
